One of the oldest departments at CBIT, the physics department of the college is blessed with great faculty and research infrastructure. The students and the faculty in this part of the college will always be found thinking about the next big breakthrough in the world of physics. Since physics is an integral part of any engineering discipline, the importance of this department increases manifold.
Nurturing student talent in the area of core and applied area of physics. Nurturing Fresh Graduates to Advance/Motivate in/towards Science and Technology.
To enrich the principles of physics through which the capability of understanding the core subject is made easier for a graduate student.
Department of Physics has been one of the oldest departments since the establishment of CBIT and had its profound stand in the research and teaching & learning activities while renovating itself with the dynamic curriculum of the affiliating institutions (AICTE) and higher education institutions (HEI) from time to time. The Department offers courses Optics & Semiconductor Physics (OSP), Electromagnetic Theory & Quantum Mechanics (ETQM), Mechanics and Materials Science (MMS) and Physics for I-Year B.E/B.TECH and an open elective History of Science and Technology to III, IV and PG students. These courses are meant to teach the fundamentals of Physics required while throwing light on to their technological and engineering applications.
The department is instrumental in scheduling the class work for I-Year B.E/B.Tech. programmes. It’s perseverance to actively participate in conducting various mandate and co-curricular activities in the institute deserves a definite and special mention. It offers its dedication while moulding and shaping the young graduates into career-oriented personals by conducting programmes such as orientation, student induction programmes and an instrumental hand in organizing college cultural festival SHRUTHI and a national level Student’s Technical Fest SUDHEE. Through these activities, the students are made to realize their social responsibility and to improve holistic character and scientific temper.
The faculty’s enthusiasm and self-motivation towards experimental and theoretical research has reflected in about 85 publications in highly reputed journals and in about 50 conference proceedings. The Department is determined to establish facilities for Materials Research and Radiation Physics. So far, the faculty have secured funds of worth about Rs. 81, 00, 000/- by winning major and minor projects from different Govt. funding agencies DST, SERB, UGC and UGC-DAE CSR and TSCOST.
The department conducts various FDPs /Seminars/Workshops/Conferences for the benefit of faculty and to the student community. To achieve the Vision and Mission of the Department, the faculty are bridging the gap between the basic sciences the students learn and the allied engineering fields.
The Department targets to achieve Research Excellence in Interdisciplinary & Allied Disciplines of Sciences and Technology through collaborations with Industry and Educational Institutions within the nation and across the globe.
